This is a venue for hire, so the programme is whatever the hiring group brings. What the venue supplies is the space, the beds, the kitchen and the setting. The minimum booking is 24 people for 2 days and 2 nights, and the place is never shared with another group while you're there. It can't be rented for a single day.
The farm was built in 1921 and renovated in 2021, exactly a hundred years later. The old stable became the Sacred Space, and new buildings were added using locally sourced bio-based and circular materials. The result is a mix of old timber and brick with modern, well-insulated rooms. The acoustics in the main hall are good enough for sound work and live music, and the hall works for breathwork, yoga, meditation, ceremonies and dance sessions.
There is a second space for workshops if you need one. The dining and living room seats over 40 and can double as a breakout room. Next to it, in a separate room, is a commercial kitchen with 2,100 litres of fridge space, 700 litres of freezer space, a 6-burner gas stove with a convection oven, a combi-steamer and a fast basket dishwasher. You can bring your own chef. If you don't have one, the venue keeps a list of local chefs it knows.
Sleeping is split between 10 modern ecolodges with en-suite bathrooms, a set of farm rooms with washbasins in the room and shared toilets and showers, and a 4-bed dorm. In season, people can also pitch tents in the fruit orchard, which is how bigger groups fit.
The Slangenburg estate covers 600 hectares of woods, avenues of old trees, meadows and ponds, with the castle at its centre. Between sessions people walk the estate paths and look for wildlife. Beyond it, the Achterhoek is a quiet farming region of streams, heathland, hedgerows and small country estates, and it's good cycling country.
Practical details are well covered. There are five EV charging points. The nearest train station is Doetinchem. From there, bus 74 toward Enschede stops at 'Slangenburg, Kasteel Slangenburg', a 2.5 km walk from the farm. Alternatively, it's a 7.5 km bike ride, or a taxi for about €25.
