Yoga & Hiking Adventure Retreat in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco

Yoga & Hiking Adventure Retreat in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco

Morocco · 5 days · From USD 990

The retreat is built around a simple daily rhythm: yoga before breakfast, a hike in the morning, lunch back at the house, then free time until a late-afternoon yoga session and dinner. The hikes vary by day and by the group's ability — expect 2 to 3 hours of walking through the Ourika Valley, with stops for mint tea at villages along the way. The terrain is rocky but manageable; you don't need hiking boots beyond a decent pair of trainers.

The guesthouse is the kind of place where you eat every meal outside on the terrace, and the same family who owns it does the cooking. Breakfast is fresh bread, eggs, olives and jam, with coffee and mint tea. Lunch and dinner are Moroccan — salads, tagines, couscous on Fridays, plenty of fruit. Vegetarian and vegan guests are looked after without fuss, as long as you let them know when you book.

Yoga happens on an outdoor platform with views across the valley, or inside the yoga shala if the wind picks up. Mornings tend to be more energetic — a vinyasa-style flow to wake you up — while evenings are slower and stretch-based. Rachel, who leads most of the departures, has been teaching for over a decade and is good at adjusting to mixed-ability groups.

On the final afternoon the group usually visits the local hammam, followed by a cooking class back at the house and a last dinner together. Transfers from Marrakech Airport or from the city are included on the first and last day, and the drive takes about an hour.

Compared with a beach yoga holiday in Portugal or Spain, this one is more active and more culturally immersive. You're not spending the week by a pool with a smoothie; you're walking through villages, eating with a local family, and getting up at 7am for a proper yoga session. It suits people who want to move and see something new, and it's four nights rather than seven, which makes it easier to slot into a working week.
