Home › Retreats › Yoga, Hiking and Stand-Up Paddleboarding Week in Ubud, Bali
Indonesia · 8 days
The retreat runs out of a family-owned garden property in Nyuh Kuning, a quiet village about a 20-minute walk south of central Ubud. Rooms sit in low-rise blocks surrounded by frangipani and banana palms, arranged around a saltwater pool. The yoga shala is open-sided with wooden floors and ceiling fans, and it's used for both the morning dynamic classes and the evening yin and restorative sessions.
Yoga is the backbone of the week and takes place twice daily on most days — a stronger vinyasa or hatha flow in the morning, and a slower, longer-held practice before dinner. Classes run 75 to 90 minutes and are taught in English, with props (blocks, straps, bolsters) provided. Teachers adjust for beginners and offer progressions for people who've been practising for years, so both levels share the same room comfortably.
What separates this week from a standard yoga holiday is the amount that happens off the mat. There's a full-day guided tour that takes in the Tegallalang rice terraces, a Balinese temple and a coffee plantation, plus a pre-dawn start to hike Mount Batur for sunrise. One afternoon is spent at Sanur on stand-up paddleboards, working along a sheltered reef. On the final evening the group does a Balinese water blessing ceremony at a village temple with a local priest.
Food is vegetarian and included for the whole week — three meals a day except on excursion days, when lunch happens at a local warung instead. The kitchen cooks Indonesian dishes most nights: nasi campur, gado-gado, tempeh curries, fresh fruit and coconut. Vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free diets are handled if you flag them at booking.
Getting there is straightforward. Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is roughly a 90-minute drive from Ubud; the property arranges an included airport transfer on arrival and departure days, or you can be picked up anywhere in the Ubud area. Staff also run a shuttle into central Ubud a few times a day if you don't fancy the walk.
