Yoga, Sound Healing and Detox Retreat at a Beachfront Resort Near Canggu, Bali

Indonesia · 7 days

A typical day at Udara starts with morning meditation and yoga, often in a shala looking out over the Indian Ocean. Breakfast follows at Organic Ocean, the resort restaurant, then there's a full schedule of classes through the day: aerial yoga, yin, power yoga, Qi Gong, breathwork, and sound healing ceremonies in the Quantum Sound Domes. Massage or another spa treatment is included for each day of your stay. Afternoons are open for the pool, the sauna and plunge pools, the library overlooking an ancient temple, or a walk along the beach into Canggu, about 20 minutes on foot. Bicycles are free to use if you'd rather ride.

What separates Udara from other yoga resorts in the Canggu area is the sound healing setup. There are three Quantum Sound Domes and a collection of artisan gongs, singing bowls and indigenous instruments built up since the resort opened in 2017. Sessions include gong sound baths, sound floats where you lie in an aerial yoga hammock while instruments are played around you, and spa nights that combine singing bowls in the sauna and warm water pool with a body scrub and a light dinner. The spa itself is built around boulders and Hindu statues, with the sauna housed inside a giant turtle sculpture.

The resort also runs a programme of workshops and special events, some open to outside guests. Recent listings have included cacao and kirtan ceremonies, Kundalini Activation Process sessions, shamanic breathwork, rebirthing breathwork with a live DJ, and manifestation workshops. On Sunday mornings there's a festival for in-house guests, locals and expats, which makes the resort busier than usual. During the week it's quieter.

Rooms are either sea or garden view, or one of the four traditional Javanese wooden Joglos. The grounds are deliberately uneven, with winding stone paths and stairs and no lifts, so they suit guests who are steady on their feet. The resort is currently extending its facilities; the work is confined to one corner of the property and the programme continues as scheduled.

Food at Organic Ocean is mostly plant- and seafood-based, with no meat on the menu. Seafood comes from the daily catch of Seseh fishermen, and fruit and vegetables are sourced from organic farms in the Bedugul hills. The resort runs a water purification and filtration system throughout. Guests on a cleanse programme follow either a liquid or raw food plan instead of the standard menu.
