Yoga, Tai Chi & Volcanic Nature Retreat in Fuerteventura

Yoga, Tai Chi & Volcanic Nature Retreat in Fuerteventura

Canary Islands · 8 days · From USD 980

The retreat is anchored by a balanced yoga program of morning Flow and afternoon Yin sessions, four of each across the week. Flow classes are dynamic, building heat and strength, while the Yin practice slows everything down, working into the deep connective tissue through long-held, meditative poses. Instruction is small-group, so you get personal attention on alignment and can adapt the practice to your level. Early mornings can instead (or additionally) begin with Tai Chi or Qigong on the villa terrace, where the volcanic views make for a particularly serene start to the day.

The Tai Chi and Qigong element is run by Paco Borges, who began martial arts 42 years ago and turned to Tai Chi and acupuncture after a serious back injury left him facing surgery. He recovered through these practices and has now taught for 22 years, training with his own master twice a year in Asia. He also performs Chinese medicine on site—two acupuncture sessions and one auriculotherapy (seed) session are included in your stay. There is one special outdoor excursion, a two-hour session where the group practices Tai Chi and meditation at a volcano crater, a genuinely memorable experience in the island's raw landscape.

Meals are a highlight. Chef Victor prepares three-course vegan brunches and dinners (starter, main, dessert) on four days of the week, using local, organic, seasonal produce. Most dietary requirements, notably gluten-free, are catered for. Such meals are included in the price, but note that they are not provided every day, and the other days you'll be cooking for yourself in your room's kitchenette or eating out in Villaverde or nearby Corralejo. The food is consistently praised by past guests as 'sensational' and 'a real treat'.

Villa Azul itself reflects the area's volcanic character and the retreat owner's travels—each room carries a theme, from a Bali-inspired room on the ground floor to a desert-like 'Santa Fe' room, an 'India' apartment and a Machu Picchu studio near the pool. The common lounge has tea and coffee all day, and the large garden and pool are where most people spend their afternoons. It's a comfortable, unpretentious boutique stay on an island that's known for year-round sunshine, dunes, and the laid-back fishing towns of Corralejo and El Cotillo, both easily reached by public bus.
