Home › Retreats › Yoga Weeks at Rancho La Puerta: Daily Classes, Mountain Hikes and Spa Time in Baja California
California · 7 days
A typical day starts early. Sunrise Yoga is a beginner class to wake up body and mind, though it is not offered every week — check the calendar for your dates. Later in the morning you might take Yoga Fundamentals (Level One), aimed at beginners or anyone wanting a slower class covering basic skills and terminology, or Yoga: Level Two for people with a current practice. Level Two draws on Iyengar, Ashtanga and Vinyasa teaching and runs 75 minutes.
Yoga Sculpt is the strength option: free weights worked into standing and seated yoga postures, with strength-training exercises added to build lean muscle. It is listed as Level 2. Restorative Yoga supports the body with blankets, bolsters, blocks and straps and is open to all. Aerial Yoga uses silk hammocks suspended close to the ground for a gentle spinal decompression — the class is described as low hammock work rather than acrobatics.
The rest of the timetable is broad. The resort's events calendar lists cardio, strength, water classes, Pilates and Gyrokinesis, racquet sports, dance, culinary sessions and workshops alongside the yoga and mindfulness programme. Hiking is part of the week too — one option is an Intention Voicing Meditation Hike, a half-mile walk that stops three times to voice intentions and take in the mountain air.
Evenings and quieter hours lean towards the inner-journey classes: Chant: Sacred Sound Practice, a meditation practice session, Sound Healing with crystal bowls and other instruments, and a Silent Dinner eaten without conversation. There is also a Labyrinth walk on a full-scale replica of the Chartres labyrinth, set in an ancient oak grove.
The spa is a big part of why people come. Treatments include a Head-to-Toe Relaxation Massage using warmed scented oil, a Wellness Journey Massage with aromatherapy blends and hot compresses along the spine, Reiki, Reconnective Healing, Somatic Experiencing and the Lifeline Technique. A wellness expert helps you choose which treatment suits you.
What separates this from a small dedicated yoga retreat is scale and choice: at least four or five options in any given hour, according to one guest review quoted on the page, or the option to do nothing by a pool or in a hammock. The casitas are individually different, the grounds are landscaped, and all meals, snacks and beverages are included in the rate.
