Home › Retreats › Yoga & Wellness Island Escape: Off-Grid Jungle Retreat in Palawan with Treetop Shala and Eco Bamboo Beach Homes
Philippines · 7 days
Darocotan Island sits off the northern tip of Palawan, near El Nido, and it's the kind of place where jungle runs straight into the beach and the water is clear enough to see the bottom where you swim. The island operates completely off-grid: solar power, well water for everyday use, and no big resort infrastructure. That's the setting for this retreat, and it changes what a week looks like — no town to walk into, no nightlife, just the beach, the jungle trails and the group you're staying with.
Yoga happens in a treetop shala with jungle and sea views. Classes run daily and cover the range you'd expect — dynamic sessions for people who want to move, slower and restorative ones for people who've spent the morning swimming or hiking. You don't need prior experience; the classes accommodate mixed abilities. If you're here on the flexible Yoga Holiday package, you choose how many classes you take and how you fill the rest of your day; excursions, island walks and snorkelling are available to book separately.
The scheduled retreat option is the Ritual + Renewal Yoga Holiday with Batara Gat Baya, running Nov 30 – Dec 20, 2025. It blends daily yoga with sacred Filipino rituals and traditional healing practices, guided by Batara Gat Baya. This is the more structured option if you want a set programme rather than a build-your-own week.
Accommodation is spread across a range of hand-built structures — beachfront glamping tents, Puno Pods, Kubo huts, Puno Huts, Datu huts, Hive Huts and the Lux Tipi. All are built from locally sourced natural materials, most have ocean views, queen beds and electric fans, and all but the Lux Tipi use shared bathrooms. The Hive Huts are the largest and some have two queen beds so they can be shared.
Food is one of the standout parts of the stay. The kitchen team is Filipino, most dishes draw on local ingredients and Southeast Asian cooking, and there's fresh fish most days alongside vegetarian, vegan and meat options. Guests mention the food as the best they had in the Philippines. Meals are served in the Mothership, the multi-level bamboo building that also has a bar downstairs and hammock space on the second floor for sunrise and sunset.
This is a good fit if you want a low-key, nature-first yoga holiday where the yoga is part of the day rather than the whole thing, and you're comfortable with shared bathrooms, limited power and an island with no roads. It's less suited to people looking for a spa-style retreat or a tight, structured schedule every day.
