Yoga, Wine and a French Chateau: A Burgundy Wellness Week

Burgundy · 7 days

The retreat runs from Saturday 12 to Friday 18 September 2026. Arrival is between 10am and 7pm on the Saturday, with snacks and a meet-and-greet at 6pm, dinner at 7.30pm and a group orientation at 8.30pm. From Sunday to Thursday there are two yoga classes a day: an energising morning class at 8am (9.30am on the Sunday) and a gentle evening class at 5.30pm. Breakfast is at 9.30am and dinner at 7.30pm or 8pm. Friday finishes with a morning class, breakfast and checkout at noon.

The chateau is in a quiet corner of northern Burgundy, surrounded by farmland and waterways. The medieval hill-town of Vézelay is a 20-minute drive away, and its 12th-century basilica of Mary Magdalene is worth the trip for the Romanesque sculpture alone. The optional wine tasting tour and bike ride both explore the region's vineyards, some of the oldest and most prestigious in the world.

What sets this week apart is the accommodation. The chateau's five buildings include rooms in vaulted caves from the Middle Ages, and the whole property is reserved for the group. There are 21 bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms, and a pool overlooking the valley. Meals are cooked by Dear Prudence catering and served on a decorated table with valley views; two lunches are included, and wine or beer is poured at lunch and dinner.

Claire Marti has taught yoga since 1999 and is an RYT-500 Yoga Alliance instructor. She also holds a NASM personal training certification, is a certified Pilates instructor and a Reiki Level 2 practitioner, and has a Yoga for Cancer Therapy certification. Keith Allen has studied with teachers and lineages around the world and co-authored The Yoga Fix. Both teach classes that balance a meditative focus with safe alignment.

The week is not fully scheduled. There is free time on several afternoons, and the optional add-ons are booked separately. The schedule may change based on weather. This is a retreat where you can do as much or as little as you like.
