Home › Retreats › Zen, Yoga & Psychological Wellbeing Retreat in Serifos, Greece
Greece · 6 days · From USD 993
The retreat is built on three pillars: Zen, yoga, and psychological groupwork. Zazen, or seated meditation, is practiced twice daily for about 40 minutes each time. You'll also practice kinhin (walking meditation) and samu, which is mindful work like helping with meals or gardening. The Zen practice is guided by Konstantinos Sgoumpopoulos, the founder of Zen Center Athens, who trained under the Japanese master Koten Roshi.
Yoga sessions happen every morning from 6:00 to 7:45, drawing on the Satyananda and Scaravelli traditions. The classes include asanas, pranayama (breathing exercises), and deep relaxation. Alexandra Sotiropoulou, a certified yoga instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience, leads the sessions and adapts them to all levels, so even beginners are welcome.
The psychological groupwork is led by Dr. Anastasia Sgoumpopoulou, a counselling psychologist with a doctorate from the University of East London. Using tools from Schema Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), the sessions help you explore patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It's a safe, confidential space where you can reflect on what comes up during the retreat and consider new ways of responding to life's challenges.
What makes this retreat special is its setting: Kaisanji is the first Zen monastery in Greece, perched on the island of Serifos. The monastery offers five-star comfort, with elegant bungalows, a plunge pool on each terrace, and organic, seasonal meals. The combination of daily practice, group support, and the natural beauty of the Cyclades creates an environment that encourages genuine rest and introspection.
