Thailand · 14 days · From EUR 879
The camp sits in Phitsanulok, a city in central Thailand about halfway between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, on the Nan River. It's a real Thai city, not a tourist town — which is exactly the appeal. You eat where locals eat, the night markets are for residents rather than visitors, and the temples you visit are working religious sites. The camp itself is run by a Thai family, and repeat guests consistently mention the same thing in reviews: you get treated like family rather than a paying customer.
A typical training day starts at 7am with running, followed by a Muay Thai and Western boxing session at 8am. Breakfast is at 9am at the camp café. Late morning and early afternoon are free — sauna, ice bath, swimming, a Thai massage if you book one, or heading into town. At 3:30pm there's jogging, skipping or shadow boxing, then a second Muay Thai and boxing session at 4pm, dinner at 6pm, and evenings free for the night market, meditation, or just sitting outside. Sessions happen in the gym or outdoors — by the river, at the palace, or up a mountain — depending on the day.
The coaching team is led by Kru Jay. The trainers have worked with professional fighters up to Olympic level, so instruction is technically solid, but the approach here is deliberately non-pushy. Reviewers describe the trainers as motivating without being aggressive, funny, and encouraging. You'll learn pad work, bag work, partner drills, and — in the afternoon sessions — clinching and sparring technique if you want it. Nobody is forced to spar.
What separates this from a standard Thai boxing camp is what's wrapped around the training. You'll learn the Wai Kru / Ram Muay, the ceremonial dance performed before fights that honours your teacher and lineage. There's instruction in Muay Boran, Thailand's older battlefield martial art, and Thai sword traditions. The camp has a yoga room you can use freely, and yoga classes with instructor Munta Preedasitthichok are available for an extra fee — she's certified in Hatha yoga from Rishikesh with additional training in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization from the Prague School, and her classes are aimed at functional movement, posture correction and injury prevention rather than just stretching.
Food is a real part of the stay rather than an afterthought. The camp café cooks healthy versions of Thai classics: pad thai, green curry, stir-fries, sweet and sour dishes, sticky rice, fruit plates, fried egg and salads. Several dishes are served at each meal so there's always something you'll eat. Roughly half the kitchen staff eat plant-based or vegetarian themselves, so vegetarian and vegan guests are properly catered for rather than given a token option — the hosts are explicit that you won't be left wondering where your protein is coming from. If you're training for weight loss, the kitchen can tailor portions and there's a personalised weight loss or detox option available.
The two-week format also includes excursions that most camps charge extra for. There's the Red Buddha Run — a weekly challenge up red stone steps and a mountain hike to a Chinese temple, continuing to an ancient pagoda dedicated to King Naresuan the Great. There's a session training with pads beside the camp's lake and river, followed by offering gifts to local monks and receiving their blessings. Saturday mornings there's a ceremony giving alms (dontons) to monks at Wat Yai Temple, which has a 700-year history. And Sunday is the family day out, which regular guests often name as the highlight of their stay.
