This 15-day programme at Nalanda Retreat is for adults who want to look after their metabolic health through Ayurveda, guided by a physician rather than a one-size-fits-all detox. Guests are usually between 25 and 65, and anyone over 18 is welcome, though the programme is not designed for children. Many people arrive on their own and find it easy to connect over meals and group sessions. Numbers are capped at 20, and groups typically run with 6 to 20 guests, so the doctors and therapists can give you real individual attention.
Day one starts with a full Ayurvedic and metabolic assessment. Dr. Kiran, the lead physician, talks through your dosha, health history and goals, then maps out a plan that blends classical Panchakarma-style treatments with naturopathic support. You might get a powdered-herb Udvartana massage one afternoon, a warm Kizhi poultice session another, and contrast hydrotherapy or infrared sauna later in the week. Your treatments are drawn from Udvartana, Kizhi, Virechana, Lepa, Swedana and Snehapana, alongside Epsom salt baths and a personalised Ayurvedic herbal protocol. Everything adapts as your body shifts.
The retreat sits in the peaceful coastal village of Mandrem in North Goa, surrounded by coconut palms and tropical gardens and a short walk from Mandrem Beach. You stay in a private, air-conditioned room with an en-suite bathroom, comfortable bed, high-speed Wi-Fi, tea and coffee-making facilities, and garden or pool views. Selected rooms also have a private balcony or outdoor seating area. Around you are a dedicated yoga shala, an Ayurvedic treatment centre, an outdoor swimming pool, meditation spaces, landscaped gardens and an on-site restaurant.
Each day follows the plan Dr. Kiran has set for you. You join daily yoga classes, mainly Hatha and Vinyasa adapted to your level and taught by Yoga Alliance certified teachers, along with daily pranayama sessions. Three vegetarian Ayurvedic meals are served each day, cooked fresh from seasonal ingredients: slow-cooked dals, spiced vegetable dishes, whole grains such as millet or barley, and warming spices like turmeric, cumin and ginger. The food is substantial and grounding rather than raw or extreme, with a focus on fibre and healthy fats, and is designed to be easy on digestion and light on blood sugar. Between sessions you are free to swim, sit in the meditation spaces or gardens, or wander down to the beach.
The programme costs 2,355 USD per person and includes 14 nights in a private room, three daily meals, water, tea and coffee throughout the day, a welcome drink, daily yoga and pranayama, your personalised Ayurvedic consultation and functional metabolic assessment, an individual wellness and treatment plan, the full range of Ayurvedic therapies listed above, naturopathic detoxification therapies, contrast hydrotherapy, infrared sauna and Epsom salt baths, your herbal protocol, and pre- and post-retreat support to help you carry what you have started back into daily life. Flights, travel insurance, visa fees, additional treatments and activities not listed are not included. Private transfers can be arranged for €60 per person return; Manohar International Airport (GOX) is about 45 minutes away and Goa International Airport (GOI) about 90 minutes.
