County Mayo · 7 days
A typical day is split between workshops and the outdoors. Students rotate through STEAM sessions — 3D CAD and 3D modelling and printing, coding, Micro Bits, robotics, drones, rockets, holograms, wind energy, flight, sound production, stop motion animation, movie making and green screen production — and get outside for adventure sports including kayaking, archery, orienteering and team challenges. Team sports and activities such as karaoke, rock band performance, podcasting and a Dragon's Den-style entrepreneurship session fill the rest of the programme.
The teaching approach on the page is that maths and science concepts are discovered and visualised in the workshops, then explored further through creative technologies, adventure and team sports. Groups are made up of Irish and international children together, which is part of why the camp has built a following among families abroad — one Italian parent has sent two children every summer since 2021.
The setting is the shore of Lough Mask in Connemara, recently UNESCO listed. The camp quotes Silicon Republic: "There is arguably no more beautiful setting for a summer camp than Connemara Maths Academy." Evenings on the page include sunset and wildlife posts from the grounds — curlews, sheep, the lake.
What separates this from a standard activity camp is the balance: a child can spend the morning on robotics and drones and the afternoon in a kayak. The international mix is the other difference. With students from more than twenty countries in 2026, English practice happens naturally through the day rather than in a classroom.
Staff responsiveness comes up repeatedly in the parent reviews. One family described the team doing everything they could after an airline lost their son's suitcase, keeping him comfortable for the whole stay. Another praised how quickly the team replied to messages.
