Cornwall Teen Surf Week: Atlantic Waves, English Classes and Campus Life by Falmouth

United Kingdom · 8 days · From GBP 1450

The camp is based on the Penryn Campus, a modern, green university campus a few minutes from the beach and close to the harbour town of Falmouth. Everything happens on one site: the rooms, the restaurant, the classrooms, a coffee shop, a supermarket and common areas. Parents usually want to know where their kids are, and this setup makes that easy.

On a Surf Only week, campers head to the beach in the morning and stay there until late afternoon. They surf twice a day, two hours each time, with boards and wetsuits provided. Between sessions they eat a packed lunch on the sand and play beach volleyball or football, or hang out in the surf centre's shaded areas and games room. Coaches film the sessions and go through the footage with campers afterwards. That video review is how beginners learn to stand up properly and how intermediate surfers sort out their positioning.

On the Surf & English programme, mornings from Monday to Friday are spent in class: 15 hours a week in small international groups sorted by age and level. Lessons focus on speaking confidence and everyday English, and they cover all four skills. Topics are tied to Cornish history and to the places the group visits on excursions. After lunch everyone goes surfing. This option comes with an end-of-course certificate.

For advanced surfers who already compete, there is a separate Elite Surf Training Week from 19–26 July coached by Joel Gray, one of the UK's leading high-performance surf coaches. He has worked with elite competitors including Lukas Skinner. The group is small and surfs three hours a day, with spots chosen around Cornwall depending on conditions. The work covers technique, wave selection, positioning and competition strategy. These surfers still live and socialise with the rest of the camp and join English lessons when the tides allow.

The team leaders have worked at Nomad's other camps around Europe, and all of them are DBS checked. Barney is the one making sure nobody is left out. Peyton surfs, skates, teaches yoga and films a lot of the content. Groups are split by age and ability, and every session and excursion is risk-assessed with extra safeguards for under-18s. Parents must provide emergency contacts and a signed consent form.

The camp has a 5 out of 5 rating from 9 reviews, and the comments are much alike. Kids come home having made friends from several countries and having caught the surfing bug, and many plan to come back. Most campers stay two weeks, and the second and third weeks are discounted.
