Guatemala · 6 days · From EUR 1035 (indicative)
This retreat is for anyone ready to look honestly at what is ending in their life, and what they might let go of. You do not need any experience of yoga or meditation; the practices are designed to meet you where you are, and the facilitators hold space for all levels. The only real requirement is a willingness to look inward. If you are carrying grief or trauma, the structure is gentle and supportive, and the facilitators have deep experience holding both within a group. It is not a substitute for professional therapy, so it is best to come when you are in a relatively stable place and to get in touch before booking if you have specific concerns.
Over six days, each day is built around a different kind of death. Day one might look at the death of routine, day three at the death of a story you have told about yourself, and the final day at the death of the ego's grip. Along the way you explore the death of habit, the death of separation, and the loss and transition we all meet, including in a death cafe-style conversation. You do not just talk about these things; you move them through the body. Yoga, breathwork, embodied movement, contemplative teaching, journaling, integration circles, ritual and ceremony all work together, from an opening ceremony on the first night to a grief and gratitude ritual and a closing ceremony where you name what you are taking back and what you are leaving behind.
You will be staying at Maestro Valley in San Marcos La Laguna, in Guatemala's Sololá Department. The setting is simple, comfortable and close to nature, with gardens, a yoga deck, a sound-healing dome, a temazcal (a local sweat lodge), a pool and a sauna, all to the peaceful sound of the surrounding jungle. You can choose a shared bunk room for eight or four, a private wooden double cabin with a skylight set into the garden, or a queen-bed loft tucked above the main house.
Mornings start with yoga on the open-air deck, sometimes at sunrise, with an early hike or lakeside meditation on one day. Breathwork sessions help you sit with sensation instead of escaping it, and afternoons bring workshops, movement work, reflection time and space to rest, walk or write. Evenings close with group reflection under the stars or in the sound-healing dome. Meals are generous and hearty, made from local, seasonal ingredients with an emphasis on gut health, and vegetarian diets are handled automatically, with other dietary needs met if you let the kitchen know ahead of time.
Your package includes five nights' accommodation, three meals a day, water, tea and coffee throughout the day, daily yoga and meditation, breathwork and contemplative teaching sessions, group process and integration circles, ritual and ceremony experiences, and use of all retreat facilities.
