The Manaslu Circuit circles Manaslu (8,163m), the world's eighth-highest mountain, on a quieter, more remote route than Nepal's best-known treks. It combines lively mountain culture, wild river gorges and big views of Manaslu, Siring Himal and Himal Chuli.
From Machhakhola you follow the Budhi Gandaki valley upstream through Jagat, Deng and Ghap, climbing steadily from subtropical villages into Tibetan-influenced highlands at Lho and Samagaon (3,530m). At Samagaon there is a full acclimatisation day, with a hike to Birendra Lake and towards Manaslu Base Camp (4,800m).
After Samdo and Dharmashala comes the crossing of the Larkya La (5,160m), the high point of the circuit. You then descend to Bimthang and down the valley to Tal, before driving out via Besi Sahar to Kathmandu.
A first-aid-trained, government-licensed guide leads the trek, with porters for your bags. Your Kathmandu hotel, guesthouses on the trail, all trek meals, and the Manaslu Conservation Area permit and TIMS fees are included. Graded very strenuous, this circuit is for experienced trekkers, and it is best in spring and autumn.
