Costa Rica · 4 days
Day one is arrival. Guests reach La Anita Rainforest Lodge at 4pm for a welcome ritual — herbal tea, a cold towel with essential oils, and an introduction to the retreat. Dinner at 6pm is plant-based with local ingredients, and it doubles as the first lesson in mindful eating. At 8pm there is a sound bath with crystal bowls and native instruments, and guests set a personal intention for the days ahead.
Day two starts with breakfast at 7.30am — tropical fruit, local granola, smoothies and herbal infusions. At 9am comes a guided mindfulness session in Magnolia Garden at Sensoria, teaching meditation with the senses open to the forest. An hour later there is a gentle guided walk to nearby waterfalls with silent walking meditation on the trail. Lunch at 1pm is followed by journalling prompts and free time from 2pm — thermal pools, an optional massage, or rest. Yin yoga and pranayama run at 4pm in Magnolia Gardens, then a candlelit dinner at 6.30pm with the first 15 minutes eaten in silence. The evening ends around a campfire with stargazing.
Day three opens early with soft yoga and a gratitude flow at 6.30am, breakfast at 8am, then a 9.30am workshop on taking mindfulness into daily life — rituals, routines and reflections. That is followed by guided time alone in the forest and a cleansing ritual at a hidden waterfall. After a 12.30pm lunch, the afternoon's centrepiece is a cacao ceremony with Maleku indigenous experience at 2pm. Dinner at 6.30pm is a celebration meal with music and storytelling.
Day four is for integration. A 7am sunrise meditation and closing circle covers gratitude and intentions to take home, followed by a light breakfast at 8.30am and a small gift. Departure is at 10am.
What separates this from a generic yoga weekend is the location and the access it gives. Sessions take place inside Sensoria's rainforest — in Magnolia Garden, on the waterfall trails, at the thermal pools — rather than in a studio. The cacao ceremony is led with Maleku indigenous experience, and the waterfall ritual is at a hidden fall reached on foot. The food is plant-based and local, and two meals are used deliberately: one to teach mindful eating, one eaten in silence for the first 15 minutes.
