Mythology and Yoga Retreat in Lefkada and Delphi, Greece

Greece · 8 days · From USD 4700 (indicative)

Days on Lefkada follow a loose rhythm rather than a packed timetable. Mornings begin with meditation and yoga, then a chef-prepared brunch of Mediterranean and European food. The middle of the day is free: the villa has a lagoon-style infinity pool, and there are sandy beaches within walking distance. A second session comes in the afternoon or evening — movement, myth, dance or inquiry — followed by dinner on the outdoor terrace with views over the Ionian Sea. There are two practice sessions a day, and one day is given over to a sail through the islands.

The yoga is not one style. Hannah has trained in restorative, vinyasa, hatha, anusara and yoga nidra, and has taught a twice-weekly meditation group for over six years, rooted in mindfulness-based embodied practice. She has been initiated as a Celtic priestess and works with goddess-centred spirituality, Buddhist philosophy, neuropsychology and mythology. Sessions are built around awareness and embodiment rather than pushing through a hard physical practice.

The myth work is the part that sets this apart from a standard island yoga week. Ancient stories are used as material for active imagination and creative self-exploration, alongside ritual and reflective exercises. No prior knowledge of Greek mythology is needed — the only requirement is curiosity. Dance and somatic movement sessions are improvisational and accessible, with no choreography to learn.

The Delphi leg is led as a pilgrimage. Long before the Temple of Apollo, Delphi was associated with earth-based priestess oracles linked to Gaia and Themis; by the 8th century BCE it was the pan-Hellenic sanctuary where leaders from across the Mediterranean sought guidance before big decisions. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The group visits the main archaeological sites and the museum, which holds pieces including the Sphinx of Naxos, plus the temple of Athena and lesser-known sites where there is special access for a private ritual. The retreat also introduces guests to local artisans and shopkeepers.

Lefkada itself is greener and less crowded than the Cyclades, with turquoise water, dramatic cliffs and hidden beaches, and a slower pace. The villa compound was designed by Italian architect Giovanni Bellegamba, with interiors drawing on Balinese architecture, including carved doors and water features. The main house has a kitchen, living areas and a dining room, and the grounds hold ancient olive groves, a meditation pavilion and a private massage room.
