Norway Sail & Ski LUX Week — Arctic Ski Touring from a Sailboat

Norway · From USD 6500

This is a trip for experienced women who already feel at home on skins and skis, and who want to spend a week touring from fjord to summit in the Norwegian Arctic. It is pitched at an expert level, with a maximum of six guests, so you will be in a small, like-minded group throughout. If you are a confident, experienced ski tourer in good physical condition and comfortable with demanding, multi-day touring in a remote setting, this is built for you.

The heart of the week is backcountry ski touring with IFMGA-certified guides. Each day brings ascents and descents from fjord to summit, with an avalanche safety briefing and daily route planning built into the rhythm so that objectives are matched to conditions. You will move through remote glacier valleys and Arctic peaks, with a longer objective later in the week once the group has found its stride. Shared expedition gear and safety equipment are provided; you bring your own personal ski touring kit and Arctic clothing, and a detailed packing list is confirmed before departure.

The setting is Nuvsvåg, a remote village in Finnmark, in the far north of Norway. There are no hotels here in the ordinary sense: your floating basecamp is an expedition sailboat, home for seven nights. A professional sailing crew handles all navigation, fuel and sailing operations, and Zodiac shore transfers carry you between the boat and the mountains. One day is spent sailing past calving glaciers with wildlife viewing, and the whole expedition is designed to be remote and self-sufficient, which is very much part of its character.

A typical day begins on the water and heads for the mountains, touring with your guides and carrying a packed mountain lunch on the longer days. Evenings aboard are for recovery and quiet: sauna, daily yoga and meditation, hearty meals, and northern-lights watching when conditions allow. The week has its own arc, opening with a welcome dinner and opening ceremony aboard and closing with a farewell breakfast, with touches such as a fear-management workshop, a sunrise deck yoga session and a polar plunge along the way.

The Sail & Ski LUX Week is all-inclusive and priced at 6,500 USD. That covers seven nights aboard the sailboat, all meals and non-alcoholic beverages, daily backcountry ski touring with IFMGA-certified guides, the avalanche briefing and daily route planning, the professional sailing crew and Zodiac shore transfers, daily yoga and meditation, all sailing operations, safety and shared expedition gear, permits and logistics, and a LUX Life welcome package. Food aboard is hearty, nourishing local cooking, with snacks, coffee, tea and non-alcoholic drinks throughout.

A few things sit outside the price and are worth planning for. International and domestic airfare is not included: you fly into Tromsø, then on to Alta. Travel insurance is required and not included, and alcoholic beverages are extra. Guide gratuities are customary at 5–10%. With those in hand, you are set for a week of serious Arctic touring from one of the most memorable basecamps you could ask for.
