Pressing On: A Faith-Centred Women's Weekend by Beaver Lake

The weekend runs from Friday evening to Saturday evening. Check-in is from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, and the first gathering starts at 7:30 PM with opening activities and a fireside, a relaxed way to meet people before the main day.

Saturday is the full day. There are three speaker sessions built around the "Pressing On" theme from Philippians 3:13-14. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served at camp, and the gaps between sessions are open. Weather permitting, you can take a boat out on Beaver Lake. There are hiking trails around camp and a crafts option, or you can grab a seat by the fire overlooking the lake. The day closes at 7:30 PM with worship and prayer.

The Sunday add-on is worth a look if you can stay. You get a second night in your cabin or motel room, and Sunday morning is set aside as a personal retreat, unstructured time to pray, journal or walk by the lake on your own. That's followed by a light continental breakfast and fellowship, and departure is at 11 AM.

What sets this weekend apart from a typical church conference is that it's intergenerational on purpose. Girls from 12 up take part in the full programme alongside the adult women. There's no separate youth track. The camp's stated hope is that younger women get to know and be mentored by older women in the community. Anyone under 18 has to come with a supervising adult.

The speakers for the three sessions aren't named on the event page, so contact the camp office if you'd like to know who's leading. Beaver Camp itself is a year-round Christian camp that also runs summer resident camps, canoeing and fishing trips, a wilderness outpost and Adirondack backpacking programmes.

If you can't do the overnight, there's a Saturday day-only option from 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM that covers all three meals, all three speaker sessions and the day's camp activities.
