Costa Rica · 3 days
A typical day is whatever the group leader decides, because the lodge supplies no teaching or fixed class schedule. What stays constant is the setup: the shala is ready and stocked with props, meals come out three times a day in the open-air dining room, and coffee and tea are available throughout the day. Staff stay on the property for the whole retreat and help with setup, transitions and anything unexpected.
The shala is what sets this place apart from other jungle lodges. It was built from reclaimed local hardwoods in a pagoda design, and it took the longest of anything on the property when construction began in 2003. You practice to the sound of the ocean on the upper floor. The tiled ground floor stays cool even in peak heat, so it gives you a second space for talks, workshops or ceremony. The venue is open to yoga, movement, dance, ceremony, workshops or any mix of them.
The lodge grew around that first shala and a small cabin. Today it's a self-contained ecolodge with ethnobotanical gardens and permaculture grounds, with Corcovado National Park right behind it. The park is home to nearly 3 of every 100 species on Earth, and the lodge supports rainforest and ocean wildlife conservation projects, so a group's stay contributes to that work.
One outing comes with every package: a complimentary guided trip to Río Claro for the whole group, including lunch. It's a river walk through primary jungle, and the lodge says it reliably becomes the trip's most talked-about afternoon.
There are no resident teachers. The lodge provides the place and the team, while the leader provides the programme. That makes it a good fit for a teacher who wants to focus on teaching and hand off the rooms, meals and travel coordination.
Stays start at 3 nights and can run any length subject to availability, with 3, 5, 7 or 10 days making budgeting easier. The property closes from September 1 to October 31. Group leaders can estimate costs with the pricing calculator on the lodge's page, then book a call for a room-by-room breakdown and payment schedule.
