The week runs from July 1 to July 8, 2027. You arrive by ferry on the first day and someone meets you at the port. That evening there's an opening circle, a gentle restorative practice and a welcome dinner. From there, the teaching leans toward the quiet end of yoga: restorative practice, usually in the afternoons, and yoga nidra around sunset. Sunrise vinyasa appears only a few times, so you get some movement without the week turning into a training camp.
The main difference from a typical yoga holiday is how little you are asked to do. Plenty of retreats fill the mornings and evenings with active classes. This one treats rest as the main event. Restorative yoga and yoga nidra are both done lying down, supported by bolsters and blankets, and day six is left especially open: beach, float, spa, repeat, followed by a long-hold restorative class and a candlelit ritual.
There are still a few things to look forward to. Day three is the snorkeling expedition, followed by an afternoon float and a strongly encouraged nap. Day four is a slow beach day ending with a new moon ritual, where you set intentions for the life you're going back to. Day five brings a hands-on Greek cooking class and free time for your massage. The last full day has a final flow, a closing ritual and a celebration dinner over the bay.
The retreat is led by Shelley Carroll and Lisa Rolf. Shelley founded Dancing Dogs Yoga in 2010 and has led retreats and teacher trainings on six continents. Shelley describes this one as the slowest and softest retreat they have ever made.
Amorgos is part of the appeal. It sits on the wild, ancient edge of the Greek islands and has no shortage of history: the island has been inhabited for around 5,000 years and had its own oracle spring, said to show the future, which gives the week its theme. You can only reach the island by ferry, and early July there is sunny and warm.
The hotel does a lot of the work. Aegialis Hotel & Spa has open-air yoga shalas facing the sea and a saltwater infinity pool, so your classes, swims and spa sessions are all close together. The order of the week may change with the weather and sea conditions, and the final schedule is sent before departure.
