A typical day starts before 7:30am if you want it to. People often walk down to the small beach below Vikasa to swim or sit on the rocks and watch the sunrise. The morning class is a two-hour vinyasa practice, described by the teachers as invigorating and open to all levels. Brunch at Vikasa Life Café follows, a buffet with raw, vegan, vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
From about 11:30am to 4pm the day is yours. Vikasa has a pool, and the centre's own small beach is a short walk down. Massages and spa treatments can be booked. Some guests take a tuk tuk or taxi to other beaches on the island, or into a night market. The evening session runs 4–6:30pm and leans restorative — Slow Flow, Yin, Yoga Nidra or Yoga Tune Up. Dinner is another buffet at the café, and you can have it with a kombucha, a coconut or a glass of wine.
What separates this from a generic yoga week is the setting and the room choice. Vikasa is not a hotel: rooms are comfortable but simple, with no TVs or minibars, and the centre is laid out on a hillside with the café, yoga shalas and beach at different levels. The Prana Cabanas sit where the beach meets the jungle and are the most rustic option; the Lotus Pad Plus has a king bed facing the sea view. You pick your room when you book, and the price changes accordingly.
Nat Commons and Franks Martin are senior teachers at Warrior One and have run this Thailand trip before. Nova Rosaia, a co-founder of the studio, assists and leads journaling and other sessions through the week. Between them they cover the morning and evening classes, workshops on alignment and modifications, and meditation.
Koh Samui itself is easy to get around. The retreat centre is on the coast, a few minutes' walk or a short tuk tuk ride from some of the island's better beaches. Tamarind Springs, a spa the teachers recommend, is on the island, as are night markets, waterfalls and Muay Thai training. Airport transfers are not included and are arranged directly with Vikasa.
