Holwell sits within a 13th-century farmstead, and the old buildings are the first thing people mention. Every room has its own character, and guests describe the place as homely and restful rather than polished-hotel. The site holds up to 18 guests, so a full-house retreat still feels like a group of friends rather than a conference.

The working spaces are set up for teaching. The yoga and movement studio takes 16 people, there is a separate therapy room for treatments, and a further workshop space for talks, craft sessions or whatever a host wants to run. Outside, a sauna garden gives you a hot-cold routine within a few steps of the door, and 5 acres of wild land are there to walk in.

The venue runs three ways. Retreat hosts can take exclusive use of the whole site, with catering, extra activities and treatments added on. Private guests can book bed and breakfast and bolt on yoga sessions, treatments or sauna time. Groups and businesses can hire it as a dedicated space for workshops and events, again with catering available.

Each host brings their own programme; the venue supplies the rooms, the studio, the food and the setting.
