Winter Yoga Retreat: The Art of Slowing Down in Val-David, Quebec

The retreat runs Friday to Sunday, 29 to 31 January 2027, at 2010 Mnt du 2e Rang in Val-David, Quebec. Friday evening opens with a yin class. Saturday is the fullest day: hatha yoga at 9:30, a silent walk, an art and creativity session, a sound bath with yoga nidra, a ceremony or ritual, and time around the outdoor fire. Sunday morning closes with hatha before departure.

What separates this from a generic winter yoga weekend is the mix of practices on the schedule. Alongside the asana classes there is a sweat lodge, a sound bath, a sharing circle, mindful walking and art therapy. The page lists the themes plainly: sharing circle, mindfulness, creativity and art therapy, traditional yoga, ceremony and ritual, energetics, sound bath, meditation, mindful walking.

Priya Selvarasa teaches everything. She was raised around yoga and ayurveda and specialises in yin, hatha, pranayama and trauma-sensitive practice. She founded Prana Yoga Shala and runs retreats internationally. Guests who have stayed with her before describe her as holding the space with gentleness and joy while keeping enough structure for the weekend to work — one repeat guest, Dimitrina Raby, singles out the variety of the programme and Priya's calm, soft manner.

The venue, Chaumière Fleur-Soleil, is a house in the Laurentians with hiking trails starting directly behind it. A past guest describes it as pretty and well set up inside and out, run by an owner who is clearly proud of what he and his wife built. There is a sauna and internet access on site.

The group is small and the room setup is shared — two or three single beds per room, with sheets and towels provided. Meals are vegetarian and built to handle gluten, dairy, nut and lactose restrictions, so nobody is picking around the plate.
