Yoga, Whales and Mineral Baths: A Six-Day Wellness Week in North Iceland

Iceland · 6 days

The week is built around two things: yoga and meditation in the morning, and the Icelandic landscape in the afternoon. A typical day opens at 7:30am with silent meditation, followed by a yoga class at 8:00 — Brain Dance yoga on the second day, slow flow on the third, Bliss yoga on the fourth, creative movement on the fifth. Breakfast is at 10:00, then a longer workshop or excursion runs through the middle of the day.

The workshops are led jointly by Ajeet and Saskia. One covers the AAIT method for working through personal and professional conflicts, ending with a guided cellular self-healing meditation. Another is a Reiki and chakra session where participants practise hands-on Reiki on each other, described on the page as a Reiki Level I transmission. Evenings close with Svaroopa yoga and chakra meditation, or a soundwork session connecting to what Saskia calls the Cosmos.

Two afternoons leave the farmhouse. One is a whale-watching trip from Hauganes on the fjord, focused entirely on marine life — humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises are all listed as possible sightings. The other is a trip to the Deep Nature Baths, with a guided Earth meditation led by Saskia, and a packed lunch to take with you.

What separates this from a general yoga week is the pairing of the two teachers and the amount of one-to-one work available. Ajeet has taught Svaroopa yoga for over 30 years and is a Reiki Master; Saskia has worked as a researcher for 45 years, with a focus on DNA, cells and the pineal gland. Both offer private sessions during the retreat — Acceptance & Integration with Holy Fire Reiki with Ajeet, Energy Aura and Chakra Healing with Saskia — booked once you arrive.

Selá itself is a working farmhouse retreat with no road or landmarks nearby, as the page puts it. The days are structured but not crowded: there is free time from 3:30 to 5:30 on the second day and 3:00 to 5:00 on the fifth, for creative work, rest or a walk. The final morning is a closing circle and an early breakfast before the 9:00 transfer back to Akureyri Domestic Airport.
