10-Day Private Muay Thai, Yoga & Recovery Retreat in Historic Phitsanulok

Thailand · 10 days · From EUR 2120

JP Boxing Gym sits on the edge of Phitsanulok, a city most travelers pass through on the train between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. It was the second capital of the Sukhothai Kingdom and the birthplace of King Naresuan the Great, and the gym leans into that history — the martial arts here are taught as a living tradition rather than a fitness class. You'll learn the Wai Kru / Ram Muay, the ceremonial dance performed before fights, and some classical Thai sword work rooted in battlefield technique.

A typical day starts at 08:00 with Muay Thai or Western boxing — warm-ups of skipping and dynamic stretching, then pad work, bag work and partner drills. Technique is broken down for whoever's in the room, so a first-timer and someone prepping for a fight get different corrections from the same coach. After the session comes breakfast, then free time with sauna, ice bath and (on massage days) a 90-minute Thai massage. At 14:00 there's yoga and meditation with Kru Manta, then a lighter 15:30 jogging or shadow boxing slot, and a second training session at 16:00. Dinner is around 18:00, and most evenings end with a walk to the night market or quiet time outdoors.

The yoga is taken seriously here rather than tacked on. Kru Manta has 14 years of practice and 10 years of teaching behind her, trained in Hatha in Rishikesh and also certified in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization through the Rehabilitation Prague School. Her classes blend Hatha, Vinyasa and Restorative Yin and are built around breath, alignment and core stability — useful if you've got desk-job posture issues or old injuries, and also useful for keeping your hips and shoulders working through a week of kicking and clinching.

The coaching team is led by Kru Jay and includes trainers who have worked with fighters up to professional and Olympic level. Muay Thai Boran (the older, more traditional form) is part of the programme, not just the modern ring sport.

What separates this from a standard Thai fight camp is the recovery and the lodging. Rather than a fan room above the gym, you get a private air-conditioned room with en-suite bathroom at the Shinnabhura Historic Boutique Hotel, a complimentary shuttle running between hotel and gym, pool access, and a proper recovery stack — unlimited daily sauna and ice bath, a protein smoothie every morning, and four massages across the stay. The Sunday outing is included too: past groups have gone to Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO site, Wat Pha Sorn Kaew, and the limestone country around Noen Maprang.
