200-Hour Hatha & Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training on the Kaveri River, Mysore

India · 24 days · From USD 862

The 200-hour YTTC in Mysore is a full-immersion teacher training that covers all six modules required by Yoga Alliance: techniques (asana, pranayama, kriyas, mantra, meditation), teaching methodology, anatomy and physiology, yoga philosophy, practicum, and contact hours. The curriculum is deep—you'll study the classical Hatha sequences, the Ashtanga primary series, adjustments, and alignment, and you'll also get into the less physical side of yoga: mudras, mantra, yoga nidra, and the philosophical underpinnings of the practice. This is not a yoga holiday; you'll be in class from early morning to evening most days, with a clear schedule that includes time for breakfast, lunch, rest, and self-study.

The days start early. Wake-up is at 5:30 AM, followed by a 90-minute Hatha yoga class, then karma yoga (a short period of service, like cleaning the shala), before moving into pranayama and a hearty breakfast. The morning continues with philosophy, alignment and adjustment workshops, and lunch; afternoons cover anatomy and Ashtanga, and the day winds down with meditation, dinner, and self-study. Lectures are heavy on theory—you'll go through the Yoga Sutras, the science of pranayama, the chakra system, and the ethical teachings of yoga—but it's all tied back to practical teaching skills.

The location is a big part of the experience. The campus sits on the Kaveri River, with a small island offshore that serves as a meditation spot. The open-air yoga shala is built with natural materials and has a traditional feel. There are also enclosed, soundproof halls for theory sessions. The accommodation is simple but clean, with 24/7 hot water and a UPS backup for power cuts. You're about 20 minutes from the centre of Mysore, so you can head into town on your day off to see the palace, the temples, or the markets.

What really sets this training apart is the teaching team. You'll learn from a roster of instructors—including Prana Ji, trained in the Sivananda-Vignanananda tradition, Abin, who teaches from a background in mantra and Kriya yoga, and several others who specialise in pranayama, philosophy, and Hatha techniques. The school also brings in guest teachers for Ayurveda and other topics. With such a broad faculty, you get exposure to different lineages and approaches within a single course, which is rare at this price point.
