21-Day Muay Thai, Yoga & Recovery Retreat in Thailand's Historic Heartland

Thailand · 21 days · From EUR 1876

You stay for 20 nights in a private en-suite room with air conditioning, a hot shower, and a refrigerator, then leave on day 21. The base rate of €1,876 covers the room, breakfast and dinner daily, all training sessions, yoga and meditation, sauna and ice bath access, and free pick-up from Phitsanulok's local airport, bus station, or train station. If you want more comfort, you can upgrade to the Imperial Hotel with a large outdoor pool and gym (€2,199), a private room for two at the Imperial (€4,198), or the Shinnabhura Historic Boutique Hotel (€3,943) — all with a free VIP shuttle that runs the 15 minutes between the hotel and the gym.

Training is the core of it, but it's structured in a way that won't wreck you. Mornings begin with skipping, running, and dynamic stretching as a warm-up, then move into technique work: pad work, bag work, and partner drills. Sessions run both in the gym and outdoors, including by the Nan River. Afternoon sessions focus on clinching and sparring technique, followed by cool-downs and long stretching. The gym also has a CrossFit and functional training area and runs regular classes there, plus an "Ab Blast" core finisher at the end of sessions if you want it. You'll also learn the Wai Kru / Ram Muay, the ceremonial dance performed before fights as a mark of respect to teachers and opponents, and get an introduction to traditional Thai sword training.

What separates this from a standard Thai fight camp is what surrounds the training. Yoga runs daily at 2pm with a rotating mix of styles — Hatha for strength and balance, Ashtanga-influenced sequences for endurance (with modifications for beginners), Yin for deep relaxation, and DNS with corrective functional exercises for mobility and breathing. Guided meditation happens in natural settings or at temples, and is optional. Recovery isn't an afterthought here: unlimited sauna and ice bath access, daily stretching sessions, and the option to book traditional Thai massage are all built into the schedule. Guests regularly mention in reviews that the balance between training and recovery is what made the long stay workable.

The instructors are led by Kru Jay, the gym's owner, who teaches alongside a team that has coached fighters up to Olympic level. They work with all levels — the reviews consistently note that trainers are encouraging without being pushy, and funny. Most guests are beginners or wellness-focused travelers rather than fighters in camp, though the coaching is serious enough for people preparing for competition. The gym is run by a local Thai family born and raised in Phitsanulok, and the atmosphere reflects that — meals are eaten together, the staff know your name, and there's a real community around the place rather than a customer-gym relationship.

Food is two meals a day — breakfast and dinner — plus protein smoothies in the morning, with water, coffee, and tea available all day. The gym's café serves healthy takes on Thai staples: Pad Thai, green curry, stir-fries, sweet and sour dishes, sticky rice, fruit plates, fried egg, and salads, with several dishes served at each meal so there's always something you'll eat. About half the staff eat plant-based or vegetarian, so vegan, vegetarian, raw, pescatarian, and whole-food requests are handled without fuss. There's no calorie counting or rigid dieting, but staff can put together personalized weight-loss and detox support if you're training toward a specific goal.

Phitsanulok itself is worth the trip on its own. It was the second capital of the Sukhothai Kingdom and is known as the Gateway to Northern Thailand. The Nan River runs through town, Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat holds a famous golden Buddha, and the Night Bazaar and Naresuan University Market are where you'll eat and shop. It's about a six-to-seven-hour train ride from Bangkok, or a short domestic flight. Free pick-up is included from the local airport, bus station, or train station — you just tell them when you're arriving.
