Phitsanulok Muay Thai, Yoga & Recovery Retreat — 7 Days in Thailand's Warrior Heartland

Thailand · 7 days · From EUR 975

A typical day starts at 8am with Muay Thai and Western boxing — conditioning, pad work, bag work, partner drills, and optional sparring. Trainers include Kru Jay, who learned from the legendary Samart Payakaroon, plus a team of Ministry of Sports–licensed instructors with 200+ fights between them. Sessions are scaled to whoever's in the room, from complete beginners to people with a fight background, and the coaching style is patient rather than punishing. Breakfast follows at 9am.

Mornings after that are yours. Most people use the sauna and ice bath, get a Thai massage (two 90-minute sessions are included in the week), or nap. At 2pm there's yoga and meditation with Kru Manta — a mix of Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, and DNS-based corrective work focused on posture, breathing, and mobility. Then at 4pm it's back to training, usually with more clinch work, strategy, and a recovery-focused cool-down. Dinner is at 6pm.

What separates this from a standard Thai fight camp is the recovery component. Unlimited sauna and ice bath access every day, two included massages, corrective exercise built into the yoga, and protein smoothies every morning. You're training hard but you're also being put back together. The 4pm session finishes with core work or mobility, not a punishment finisher.

The two weekly challenges are the standout sessions. Tuesday morning is a river run followed by Muay Thai training at a historic palace site. Friday is the Pagoda Mountain hike — you climb to a sacred temple and train traditional techniques up there. Both are done outdoors, which is a different thing from hitting pads in a gym.

Sundays are a group day out. The included excursion covers Wat Pha Sorn Kaew (the White Temple), the Sukhothai Historical Park (a UNESCO site), and the limestone landscape around Ban Noen Maprang. There's also a Saturday morning alms-giving ceremony at Wat Yai, a 700-year-old temple, and weekly night market visits. It's a cultural week as much as a fitness one.

Phitsanulok itself is unhurried. The Nan River runs through town, there are local markets and street food everywhere, and the neighbourhood around the gym has plenty of small eateries. It's not a beach destination and it's not a party town — that's the point. Most guests fly into Bangkok and either take the first-class bus from Mo Chit or the northern line train from Hua Lamphong, and the gym picks you up free from the local station.
