Rishikesh · 7 days · From USD 250
The daily rhythm at Saptkaya Yoga School follows the traditional sadhana structure. Each morning you'll wake early for pranayama breathing work, followed by a two-hour asana class that rotates between Hatha and Ashtanga styles depending on the day and the teacher. Teachers adjust the intensity for beginners through to advanced practitioners, so you can push yourself or take it more gently. Afternoons are given over to sound healing—using singing bowls and other instruments to shift your nervous system—along with yoga philosophy sessions and extended meditation.
The sound healing is a genuine highlight, not an add-on. Sessions run daily and are led by teachers trained in sound therapy, including one instructor with a formal Diploma in Sound Therapy from Jaipur. The bowls are used to guide you into deep relaxation and, according to the school, to help release emotional blockages. You don't need any experience with sound work to take part—just a willingness to lie down and listen.
Beyond the mat, the retreat includes several excursions that get you out of the studio and into Rishikesh itself. There's a guided hike to a nearby waterfall, an evening visit to watch the Ganga Aarti (the fire ceremony held on the ghats each sunset), a sunrise trip to Kunjapuri Temple, and some free time for shopping in the local markets. You'll also have a session practicing yoga on the banks of the Ganges, which is a very different experience from the studio floor.
The teaching team rotates across the week, and it's unusually strong for a retreat at this price point. Among the regular teachers are Rohit Prasad Singh, an E-RYT 500 who has taught across India and Europe; Dhruvaji, a former IIT Bombay chemistry gold medalist with 30 years of teaching experience; and Aishwarya, who combines her yoga teaching with a background in nutrition. There's also an Ayurvedic doctor, Dr. Prateek Singh Rawat, on hand for anyone wanting to understand their constitution or address specific health concerns during the retreat.
